An intimate documentary about faith and healing, “Two Gods” from filmmakers Zeshawn Ali and Aman Ali follows Hanif, a Black Muslim casket maker and ritual body-washer in New Jersey, as he takes two young men under his wing to teach them how to live better lives. His protegés, 17-year-old Naz and Furquan, 12, join Hanif in his East Orange shop to learn the age-old traditions of Islamic burial rituals. Shot in black-and-white, the film explores the juxtaposition of grief and the rituals of death with the vibrancy of adolescence.

Nicholette, the youngest of three siblings, was a bright, creative child who adored her father, despite his heavy drinking and a habit of disappearing for days at a time. Her mother stepped up to keep the family going during those intervals, but as this new episode chronicles, a bout of cancer sidelined Nicholette’s mom, a period when her youngest child started her wild partying and substance abuse. Now 27, Nicholette’s multiple habits are so out of control her family fears she will die without help.
