My family and I are planning to take a trip out of the country this summer. What do I need to know to stay he

Answer:

Stay up to date on your vaccinations. I recommend visiting the CDC website for Travelers’ Health to see if there are certain vaccination recommendation or requirements for the country or area you are planning to visit.

Safe eating and drinking habits are important to prevent travelers’ diarrhea. Foods served hot are generally safe to eat as high heat kills most germs. Avoid food left at room temperature or serve buffet style. Foods that are dry or packaged are generally safe to eat. Avoid eating raw foods and fruits or vegetables that are not wash prior to eat. When eating street foods, make sure they are straight from the grill and served hot. Avoid bushmeat and wild game.

Drink bottled or canned water sealed by the manufacturer. If drinking straight from the can, make sure to clean the top first. Tap water, fountain drinks, ice, and freshly squeezed juices can be contaminated with germs.

With a few precautions, you can enjoy your trip and stay healthy.
