Lloyd Howard

CAVE SPRINGS — was born December 21, 1926, in Warren, Ark., and grew up in Hamburg, Ark. He is the son of A.J. Howard and E thee Lee Smith Howard. A part of the “Greatest Generation,” Lloyd passed away on March 21, 2023, at home in Cave Springs, Ark.

After high school, Lloyd entered the Army of the United States and, upon his honorable discharge, he enrolled at the University of Arkansas-Monticello( formerly Arkansas A& M ), where he was a member of Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, and later transferred to the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, where he graduated in 1950.

In April 1951, he was married to Helen Claire Dickinson and was married for 69 years until Helen passed away in February 2020.

In working for Cities Service Oil Company (later Citgo) and Sun Oil Company, they were transferred numerous times and lived in many locations. In 1972, they made the decision to leave corporate life and moved to Rogers, Ark., where Lloyd was the Assistant Administrator at Bates Hospital (now Northwest Medical) in Bentonville. Lloyd retired in 1992, and he and Helen traveled and enjoyed doing what they wanted to do.

Lloyd is a member of First United Methodist Church in Rogers.

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents; a brother, J. B. Howard; and two sisters, Juanita Gates and Peggy C lower.

He is survived by a son, Richard Howard and wife Shiela of Cave Springs; daughter, Karen Albares and husband Andy of Foreman, Ark.; grandchildren, Jennifer Laurent of Shreveport, La., Rich Howard and wife Nancee of Cave Springs, Ark., Jason Howard of Hot Springs, Ark., Trip Hawkins and Candace Ripley of Foreman, Ark., and Kaitlyn Flanagan and husband Zach of Texarkana, Ark.; and great-grandchildren, Jaxson Hawkins, Aubree Hawkins, Melanie Flanagan, Ben Flanagan, and Gracie Kate Howard; step- grandchildren, Tara McCabe of Centerton, Ark., Terese Turner and husband Jeb of Bentonville, Ark.; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers are Rich Howard, Jr., Jason Howard, Trip Hawkins, Jaxson Hawkins, Andy Albares, Zach Flanagan, and Ben Flanagan.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 24, at First United Methodist Church in Rogers, Ark., at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Rogers or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Shreveport, La.
